Faris Elnur is one of the participants of the Arab Hope Makers, an initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He is from Sudan, and participated in the Arab Hope Makers through the Mogaddoon Organization that focuses on education. He began the work in a project aiming to provide breakfast meals to 20 schools students. Following the complaints of school principles that students were not able to get their meals for different reasons; the number of meals was raised to 4,000 daily meals distributed on 123 schools in the Khartoum, White Nile and Red Sea provinces throughout the year, amounting to 5 million meals annually. The organization has been providing the meals since its inception six years ago, distributing more than 30 million meals to date. The organization has expanded its reach to cover students in Darfur, Kordofan, Kassala and El-Gadarif. “Malnutrition and Partnership” The inability of parents to provide breakfast meals to students has increased the number of students dropping out from schools, representing an obstacle for education. Elnur noted that nurturing minds cannot be accomplished if the youth were not able to get the right nutrition, which is a main hinder for education to children. He said that the organization stood up to fill the gap, and initially worked with Italian Narnajsi Organization that runs a heart treatment hospital. He mentioned that the hospital staff noted that malnutrition was the reason for the heart diseases suffered by children, which made the Italian organization communicate with Mogaddoon to mutually organize an awareness program for parents. The program aimed to educate parents about the importance of diversifying nutrition sources in order to provide children with good nutrition containing all needed elements. “Pioneer Projects” The activities of the organization are not limited to providing food; it also includes other fields that the organization identified after visiting a number of schools that showed immediate need for other types of essential aid. One of the projects covered providing water for schools as some schools did not have any water sources, and others depended on unhealthy methods in providing water, which lead to closing a school in the rural areas. He also revealed a partnership with a British organization to enhance the educational environment in nine schools.
