Who Decides the Digital World?
February 05, 2026
1.1 Plenary Hall
Digital technologies are rapidly redefining economies, societies, and power structures — but the question of who ultimately shapes the digital future remains open. Governments, technology companies, telecom operators, media, and citizens all play roles in determining how digital systems evolve, who benefits from them, and how risks are managed. As connectivity, data, and artificial intelligence become foundational to development and competitiveness, leadership decisions made today will have lasting consequences.
This session explores the forces shaping our digital futures, from infrastructure investment and platform governance to trust, inclusion, and geopolitical influence. Drawing on his experience leading a major global telecommunications and digital services group, Hatem Dowidar, Group CEO of e& Group, will examine how digital infrastructure, partnerships, and responsible innovation can support growth while safeguarding societal interests. Moderated by Becky Anderson of CNN, the conversation will also consider the role of media, accountability, and public trust in shaping the digital age.
