The session aims to discuss global challenges and opportunities to reduce waste generated in the oceans, highlighting global efforts in promoting integrated waste management approaches and working on sustainable development goals. Several axes aimed at reducing waste and managing it in an integrated manner will be addressed, such as local and global initiatives to achieve zero waste, waste-to-energy, extended producer responsibility, conversion of waste into a resource that contributes to achieving a circular economy, and the importance of developing modern technology, artificial intelligence and waste management infrastructure to reduce its generation and sorting from the source.
