World trade may have grown exponentially over the years; wages though haven’t, leaving plenty of room for disillusion and mistrust in the global economy, Alan Krueger, professor of economics and public policy, told delegates on Day Two of the World Government Summit 2017.

“After the 70s things changed, in the US productivity and wage growth disconnected stagnating for the lower income group. This holds true for Western Europe and other countries as well,” he remarked. “The growing gap is creating an inequality trap, with people having difficulties to make a living."
