Dubai: At the World Government Summit 2025 in Dubai, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammed Shehbaz Sharif, delivered a powerful speech that not only outlined Pakistan’s bold vision for economic transformation but also underscored the country’s unwavering commitment to global peace.

Sharif’s address resonated with hope for a better future, both for Pakistan and the world, as he emphasised the need for unity, sustainability, and global cooperation in the face of mounting challenges.

He called for stronger international partnerships to support Pakistan’s ambitious energy and climate goals, which will require an estimated $100 billion in investment. Sharif also revealed the ambitious goal of achieving a 60% clean energy mix by 2030, while also targeting the transition of 30% of vehicles to electric mobility.

Pakistan, he added, with its vast renewable energy potential, including untapped wind resources and hydropower, is rapidly scaling up solar, wind, and nuclear energy initiatives.“We are accelerating solar energy adoption through policy reforms, tax exemptions, and investment incentives. Our goal is to make Pakistan a leading destination for global capital, driven by sustainable and resilient infrastructure,” he asserted.

Speaking on the first day of the mega event, Sharif began by acknowledging the exceptional leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, hailing their efforts in bringing together policymakers, thought leaders, and global changemakers at the World Government Summit 2025 being held in Dubai from February 11 to 13.

“This summit provides an ideal platform to exchange ideas and forge partnerships for a brighter and more prosperous future for humanity,” he said.

The Prime Minister also expressed his admiration for Dubai, a city where “the future meets the present” — a fitting backdrop for discussing a vision of progress and transformation.

Global peace

Sharif condemned the devastating loss of life in Gaza, with over 50,000 innocent victims, and reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance in supporting a peaceful, two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

“Pakistan believes that lasting peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds as its capital,” he added.

Pakistan’s challenges

Turning to Pakistan’s own challenges, Sharif reflected on the nation’s resilience and its determination to overcome adversity over the past seven decades. He highlighted the country’s economic stabilisation, particularly the sharp drop in inflation to a historic low of 2.4% in January 2025, the lowest in nine years.

With a capped interest rate of 12%, Pakistan has managed to create a conducive environment for private sector growth and recovery.

“I am proud to report that Pakistan stands at a defining moment of economic transformation,” Sharif announced, unveiling the National Economic Transformation Plan—‘Uraan Pakistan.’ The plan encompasses a five-pronged strategy focused on:

• Exports

• E-Pakistan

• Environment & Climate Change

• Energy & Infrastructure

• Equity & Empowerment

Pakistani youth

Sharif also highlighted the promise of Pakistan’s young, dynamic population, with 70% of its citizens under the age of 30. To harness this demographic advantage, Pakistan is implementing reforms to simplify business regulations, enhance legal protections, and streamline investment processes, making the country more attractive to international investors.

Eco-friendly farming

Sharif also discussed the government’s commitment to eco-friendly farming practices, including water-efficient irrigation techniques and the development of drought-resistant crops. Under its Adaptation Policy 2023, Pakistan is integrating cutting-edge climate-smart technologies and sending 1,000 agricultural graduates to China for advanced training.

“Next month, we will send 1000 Pakistani agricultural graduates to China for training in advanced agricultural techniques,” he shared.

“Let this summit mark the dawn of a new era — one that prioritises peace, sustainability, and shared prosperity for all,” Sharif concluded, urging global leaders to unite in shaping a better future for all.
